I think that in this case Kofi Annan was referring specifically to women, but it’s true, this principle should apply to all genders, without distinction 😉

Just a few years ago here, we had some 100-year commemorations for suffragettes (that is a very uncommon word – ask me if you do not understand), I’m sure Italy must be around about the same time. What struck me was that many people thought that the battle was won long ago, but I think it is still ongoing. But Annan was a good guy, he will have been sound. I’m sure the context played a big part.
