Saving at home – Baklava

Hi everyone!

A pastry suitable for all seasons and occasions, the baklava, is also perfect to take home friends or is a great gift idea for birthdays or holidays in general.

It is also quite easy to prepare. Be careful because you easily become addicted to baklava!

Let’s start:

Ingredients for 4 people: 500 g phyllo pastry (24 sheets) – 400 g mixed dried fruit (walnuts, almonds, pistachios…) – 180 g melted butter – 500 g Sugar – 1 lemon (juice) – 2 tablespoons orange flower water

To prepare the baklava, first of all start with the syrup: dissolve the sugar in 300 ml of water which you have added the lemon juice and cook until the mixture has thickened and the spoon will come out veiled.

At this point, add the orange flower water, cook for another 2 minutes over low heat, then remove from heat and, after cooling, put the syrup in the refrigerator.

Brush the base and the walls of a square or rectangular baking pan with melted butter and then place on it half of the sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each of them with butter.

Now sprinkle the dried fruit cut coarsely with a knife and close with the remaining sheets of phyllo dough, always taking care to brush them all with melted butter.

With a sharp knife, make some incisions in order to cut the cake into rectangles and cook the baklava in the oven already hot to 160° C. for 45 minutes, then raise the temperature to 220° C. and continue cooking for 15 minutes so that the surface is golden.

Take out the baklava and pour on the surface the cooled syrup: make sure that the syrup goes in every part of the cake but being careful not to put too much.

Let it cool before dividing the cake into pieces, following the incisions made before cooking and served on the table.

It’s absolutely delicious!

Enjoy your meal!
