Saving at home – Pastizzi (Malta)


Hi everyone!

Today we will see how to prepare the Pastizzi, a typical Maltese recipe.

This pasta is nothing more than a small calzone made with puff pastry, characterized by a delicious filling.

Usually the pastizzi are stuffed with ricotta and parsley but there are many variations to be consumed strictly hot. 

Among the most classic fillings there is minced meat, cheese and eggs.

Let’s start:


Ingredients for 4 people: 750 g di pasta sfoglia – 3 uova – 300 g di ricotta vaccina – 1 mazzetto di prezzemolo tritato – sale q.b. – pepe q.b.


Let’s start by preparing the filling: break two eggs inside a large bowl, beat them with a fork then add the ricotta cheese, salt, pepper and washed and chopped parsley. Stir well and momentarily set aside.

Unroll the puff pastry and cut many disks of at least 10 cm in diameter (you can use a cup), beat the egg and brush with it the edges of each disk.

With a teaspoon of ricotta filling, fill the disks.

Close by joining the sides.

Place them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and brush with the remaining beaten egg.

Bake in a preheated oven at 200° C for 30 minutes.

When cooked, remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
