Saving at home – Chicken with honey (China)


Hi everyone!

The crispy chicken covered with sweet and sour honey sauce is really delicious and most of the ingredients used are easy to find at the supermarket or in small shops selling Chinese food.

This is once again a quick and easy recipe.

Let’s start:


Ingredients for 4 people: For chicken marinating: 500 g chicken breast – 1 piece fresh ginger – 2 tablespoons soy sauce – 1/2 teaspoon black pepper – 1 tablespoon of Chinese cooking wine (or apple vinegar) – 1/2 tablespoon sesame oil – 3 tablespoons corn flour or cornstarch
For the Honey Sauce: A drizzle of cooking oil – 1 inch of ginger cut into julienne – 3 cloves of chopped garlic – 1/2 glass of water – 4 tablespoons ketchup – 2 tablespoons honey
For decoration: Sesame seeds – Spring onion


Cut the chicken breast into cubes and put it in a large bowl.

Add the soya, the finely chopped ginger, pepper, Chinese wine (or apple vinegar), sesame oil and cornstarch.

Mix vigorously all the ingredients.

Marinate in the fridge for at least an hour.

After the marinating time, pass the chicken morsels in further cornstarch, let rest 15 minutes and then fry in hot oil.

Drain well and set aside to dry.

Now prepare the ingredients for the decoration.

In a saucepan, heat the sesame seeds over low heat, just long enough to roast them … you absolutely do not have to burn or blacken them, otherwise they become bitter.

Cut the green part of the spring onion into strips.

Put sesame seeds and chopped spring onions.

Prepare the honey sauce:

Cut the ginger into julienne and finely chop the garlic.

In a pan pour a drizzle of olive oil and fry the ginger and garlic, until brown.

Add half a glass of water, the ketchup and the honey, and cook until it thickens, then pour in the chicken and mix everything.

Serve the honey-flavored chicken nuggets sprinkled with roasted sesame seeds.

You can serve them with a plate of steamed rice.
