Saving at home – Vol-au-vent (France)

The Vol au Vent (from the French “brought by the wind”) are small lightweight baskets formed by sheets of puff pastry overlaid empty inside stuffed in various ways, from sweet to salty that can be served with both hot and cold fillings.

You can use them to serve both sweet and savory creams or even to fill them with pieces of fresh fruit.

Preparing vol au vent at home is really easy, and in a few minutes you can get some nice baskets of puff pastry to stuff in many ways.

Let’s start:

VOL-AU-VENT (FRANCE)

Ingredients for 4 people: 1 roll of puff pastry – 1 egg

Preparation:

Roll out the puff pastry and with a round cookie cutter cut the circles of 6 cm in diameter.

Leave intact those that will serve as the base and engrave with a second glass of smaller diameter, those that swelling will give us the walls.

Brush the disk and the edges with a beaten egg to make the browning (alternatively you can also use milk that gives the same browning of the egg).

Pierce the bases with the tines of a fork so as not to inflate the base during cooking.

On each base rest 3 circles taking care to brush each ring before overlaying another.

Put the vol au vent on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper.

Bake hot oven at 200 º C for about ten minutes or until they are swollen and golden.

Let it cool before garnishing.
