Saving at home – Jacket potatoes (Great Britain – USA)

Hi everyone!

Today we move to Great Britain and the United States with these jacket potatoes or baked potatoes. A delicious dish of AngloSaxon cuisine, which became famous also in the American cuisine.

In history, the recipe of jacket potatoes reached the greatest success and the maximum spread in the twentieth century, when in several places in the world they were served with fillings that varied according to the culture and specialties of the place.

These potatoes have the characteristic of being cooked with their skin and in a aluminum foil, so it is as if they were covered with a real jacket (hence the name: potato jacket, or baked potato, in English).

They are among the most tasty side dishes and, even as an appetizer during a dinner with a typical English flavor, make their figure! Excellent especially for a meeting or a party with friends for the fact that they are to be considered a real treat.

They are also perfect as a side dish during the barbecue.

Let’s start:

Ingredients for 4 people:

To prepare the classic recipe you need 4 yellow potatoes, that is with soft pulp and basically sweet.

Always wash them with care, just because the peel is not removed; then close them in aluminum paper and bake them at 180° in the already hot oven. You can control the cooking with a toothpick and, when they are ready, you can proceed with the filling.

As mentioned, empty the potatoes while preserving the pulp to prepare a soft mixture to which you will add a pinch of salt and a generous grind of pepper, as well as 50 g of grated cheddar cheese.

In a pan, then, cook the bacon (50 g) or bresaola, so that they become crispy.

Fill again the empty potatoes with this mixture, add some pieces of butter and bacon or crispy bresaola.

Close the tuber in tin foil and bake for another 5 minutes. The result will be special: the cheese will melt together with the butter making it all streaky.

The children will love it and even the adults will definitely appreciate their taste.

Enjoy your meal!
