Saving at home – Chestnut jam

Hi everyone!

This chestnut jam will allow you to preserve their goodness all year round.

A simple recipe but with a result that is really super, let’s see how to prepare it!

Let’s start:

CHESTNUT JAM

Ingredients for 4 people: 1 kg of chestnuts – 800 g of granulated sugar – 1 glass and a half of water – the juice of a lemon – 1 stick of vanilla (or powder) – 1 tablespoon of rum (or fruit juice/essence) – 1 pinch of salt

Preparation:

Put the chestnuts in a large pot with water and a pinch of salt.

Bring to a boil and remove from heat only when the chestnuts are well cooked, then peel them, trying to eliminate even the skin that covers them.

Put the chestnuts in a vegetable mill and puree them.

Transfer the mixture into a saucepan, add lemon juice, water and granulated sugar.

Mix thoroughly, add the vanilla stick (or powder) and place immediately on the stove over high heat. Stirring constantly, melt the sugar completely.

When the solution has thickened enough, remove the vanilla stick and add the rum (or fruit essence/juice).
Leave on fire for about 40 minutes, being careful to stir continuously so as not to risk sticking the jam to the bottom of the pot.

As soon as the chestnut jam is ready, it can be immediately poured into glass jars dry and perfectly sterilized by boiling (for 30 minutes including lids but not screwed).

Close the jars with the appropriate lids and let cool upside down.

Transfer the jars in the pantry and eat the chestnut jam natural, or as a tasty ingredient for tarts and delicious cakes.
